Dassett Eventing could not run without our exceptional on-site team and their incredible hard work, the loyal support of friends and family and our wonderful off-site support teams...
Kate Rocher-Smith - Business Manager and Rider
Kate began eventing when she lived in London and kept her horse near Guildford. She spent the summer of 2003 training and riding with Ann and Nigel Taylor at Washbrook Farm, Aston-le-Walls, prompting her to move her horse up there full time, whilst studying for her A-levels. Despite being short listed for the British Junior team, she was unable to fulfill this ambition due to a lameness issue. After leaving school she took over her own barn at Ann and Nigel's and commuted to Warwick University whilst studying Economics. In the spring of 2005 she moved a few miles down the road to Dassett Fields, where she set up Dassett Eventing. Since then, Kate has ridden full time and become a familiar face on both the National and International scene. She has produced horses up to the top level and sold numerous horses worldwide. In 2010 Kate masterminded the prestigious 8/9 Year Old Advanced Class, run annually at Aston-le-Walls, which offers one of the most generous prize pools on the National circuit. Kate is constantly developing Dassett Eventing, and with her team, hopes to maintain Dassett Eventing's place as one of the leading producers of event horses worldwide.
Sue Tomlinson - Production Manager
We are thrilled to have Sue (aka 'Granny'!) on board to manage the sales side of Dassett Eventing. Sue started with us at the beginning of the 2011 season and works closely with our student riders each year. She helps them to produce our horses from green 4 years olds right through to Advanced level, in the best possible way, laying strong foundations for future success. Her experience and exceptional horsemanship allows her not only to manage and ride our horses to an outstanding standard, but also to help Kate both with the training of the horses she rides, and with clients. Sue's positive approach to her work, coupled with her dedication to the horses' well being, is certainly a recipe for success... and we mustn't forget her fabulous jokes either!
Lauren Hammond - Travelling Manager
Lauren first came to Dassett Eventing in 2005 at the young age of 16 years old as part of her Warwickshire College work placement...and never left! She helped build the business and yard up over the years, working very closely with Kate, traveling across the UK and Europe as they produced, trained and competed horses from 4 year olds up to Advanced level. Lauren herself became a well known and popular face on the eventing curcuit. She then headed off travelling on her own two legs through 2013 and worked as a vetinary nurse in 2014, where she expanded her knowledge and understanding of the vetinary world, whilst always supporting Kate and the rest of the team at numerous competitions. Lauren officially rejoined Team Dassett at the start of the 2015 season, and we all grately appreciate her ability to care for and produce the horses (and riders!), so they are always not only looking at their best, but also feeling at their best.
Craig Barr - Rider
Craig is originally from Cheshire and joined us at the start of 2013. Craig campaigns a selection of Dassett Eventing's horses, from 4 year olds through to those competing at Advanced level, as they are prepared for competition and sale. Craig has previously worked for Caroline Pratt and Andrew Heffernan, where he was Head Lad for seven years, running the yard and acting as Stable Jockey. This led Craig to groom for The Netherlands at both the 2011 European Championships and the 2012 London Olympic Games. With Dassett Eventing, Craig has produced horses which have gone on to place at 4* level and won himself on both the National and International circuits. Craig's experience of working and training a wide range of horses puts him in the perfect position to help some of Dassett Eventing's horses enter the competitive scene and gain experience on the BE and FEI circuits.
Hayley Wright - Stable Rider
Hayley also based with us at the start of the 2013 season, and joined us as part of Dassett Eventing's expansion. She spent the previous 2 years riding for Lucy Wiegersmar, at her base in the West Country. 25 year old Hayley, originally from Surrey, gained valuable experience riding all types and ages of horses with Lucy, from unbacked 4 year olds through to Lucy's 4* horses, putting Hayley in a great position to ride a range of horses at Dassett Eventing. Hayley is exceptionally talented in producing young horses, with natural empathy and understanding, allowing her to ensure all the horses she works with get the best foundations possible. As well as starting all of Dassett Eventing's young stock, Hayley also helps train the older horses based at Dassett Eventing and competes her own Dassett At Last at Intermediate level. Hayley is becoming more involved in the Irish side of the business too, and we are looking forward to watching Hayley develop in that aspect of her career as well.
Finley Atherton - Apprentice
Fin, who is 17 years old is originally from Cambridge, started riding at young age of 2 years old on his shetland pony! Since then he has worked his way through the Pony Club, competing at Novice, Intermediate and Open levels, qualifying for the Championships on 4 attempts. He has 5 years of British Eventing experience under his belt, and was part of the Eastern Region Team at Weston Park's Under 18 CCI* Championships in 2014, where the team finished an impressive second. After gaining his GCSEs at Comberton College, Fin left school to persue a career in horses, and worked for Danesmoor Sport Horses during 2016. He went on to be part of the winning Eastern Region Team at the Under 18 CCI* Championships at Frickley Park later that year, and these good results have earned him a place on the Junior Eventing Programme. Fin has joined Dassett Eventing for the 2017 season as part of his Apprenticeship with Haddon Training and is proving to be a very motivated and hard working member of our team who has big dreams for the future!
Georgie Brown - Apprentice
Andrzej Osinski - Maintenance Manager
Andrzej, who is from Poland, is another long standing member of the team, having worked at Dassett Eventing since 2006. He keeps everything working and looking smart at Dassett Fields and his skills range from putting up Christmas decorations (of which there are A LOT!) on the yard, to building wash boxes, stables and field shelters. He has become a key player at mucking out time, and will always lend a hand on the yard when needed. Andrzej is always our first port of call when something needs repairing and is 'the man to the rescue' on a regular basis!
Krzysztof Osinski - Assistant Maintenance Manager
Krzysztof, Andrzej's son, joined Dassett Eventing in 2014 filling in as part time help with both the horses and maintanence around Dassett Fields. However, he quickly became a necessity to the team, and joined us full time from 2015. Krzysztof helps on both morning and afternoon yards, and has naturally taken to handling the range of horses we have at Dassett Eventing. During the day he ensures the property is always looking smart, and can turn his skills to a wide range of tasks.
Emily Mumford - Social Media Co-Ordinator
Emily is a major supporter of the whole Dassett Team and runs Dassett Eventing's social media activities and website. Emily met the Dassett Team at horse trials, whilst working for BEDE Ltd and quickly became a good friend and loyal supporter. Now running her own business, InkPot & Press, Emily keeps tabs on all of Dassett Eventing's activities, following the highs and lows of eventing and helping to promote the success of many of the Dassett graduates competing across the world.
Ann and Nigel Taylor - Jump Trainers
Ann and Nigel Taylor run the local eventing facility, Aston-le-Walls, which is a major feature on the British Eventing calendar. Their expertise and vast wealth of knowledge gives Kate the support and specialist training required to both produce the young horses, and compete the more experienced horses at the top of their game.
Lizzie Murray - Dressage Trainer
Lizzie started helping the team at Dassett Eventing in 2012, after meeting Kate on the World Class Equine Pathway Programme, and she has become a fabulous asset. She has an excellent ability to convey her superb understanding of dressage, and has proved incredibly effective with both horses and riders.
Terry Horgan - Vet
A horse can only give its best if it is healthy. We work with Terry to deal with minor, and occasionally major, issues, and to ensure no problem goes unnoticed.
Radway Rehabilitation Centre
Radway Equine Rehabilitation Centre is an outstanding local purpose built facility, using their equine hydrotherapy spa (amongst other treatments) for inpatients or day visitors. It is run by equine vet Fiona and her husband Lee Elliott. Dassett Eventing consistently use the spa as a preventative measure during training, the build up to events and throughout the competitive season. All Dassett horses at Intermediate level and above have a treatment after every run, and it is our first port of call for any potential injuries, swellings or bruising. They have become a vital and crucial part of our programme, and their professionalism, attention to detail and ability to accommodate us all year round is second to none.
Sam Head & John Benfield - Farrier
Sam and John work closely together to ensure all the horses at Dassett Eventing are always working from a balanced and comfortable base, and this they do to an exceptional standard. They take time to see how each horse moves and operates, allowing them to get the best out of each horse.
Marnie Campbell - Physiotherapist
Marnie is another longstanding member of the team, and is at Dassett Eventing every other Tuesday using her remarkable talent to diagnose and treat any problems, so the horses are always in the best possible condition to work and compete.
Vicky Knapp - Chiropractor
Vicky makes regular visits to Dassett Eventing, to make sure all horses remain on the straight and narrow! She has exceptional ability in her field, and a fantastic understanding of the way in which the horses' bodies function.
Shane Kitching - Dentist
Shane is a top equine dentist who treats the Dassett Eventing horses twice a year, to guarantee they gain the most from their diet and work to the best of their ability.
Paul Morgan - Saddler
Paul, from PM Equestrian, started supporting and working with Dassett Eventing at the end of the 2013 season, and now supllies, fits and cares for all the Antares tack and equipment at Dassett Eventing. He has provided Kate with bespoke saddles, which she adores and can not imagine being without, and works closely with the rest of the team to ensure nothing is missed and all the horses and riders are looking smart and feeling comfortable. Paul's patients and attention to detail means every horse has it's individual needs catered for and Dassett Eventing can not imagine working with any other saddler or make of saddle.
