What Joey lacks in height he most certainly makes up for in personality! This confident and hilarious character is by Iroko and out of a very successful line of jumping mares. Bought as a 3 year old, Joey spent much of his 4 year old year learning the ropes in Ireland and came over to our UK base later that year.
Joey has matured hugely last season and has developed into a serous contender for the Youth Team programmes and beyond. He is established on the flat, ticking all the lateral work boxes and already being very confident with his flying changes. If time allowed, we are confident Joey could also have a career in pure jumping, given his outstanding scope and determination to clear the coloured poles from any take off spot! Joey loves to gallop but is always ridden in a snaffle. He is an absolute machine across the country and will do all he can to get safely between the flags.
Joey competed at BE100 level as a 5yo and Novice level as a 6yo, proving to be a fabulous jumper. Last year, Joey placed and jumped great double clears at six consecutive Novice level, as well as his first International event, Rockingham Castle CCI-S2*. He gained multiple placings at Intermediate level and jumped clear and inside the time at his first long format event. Before the Covid-19 pandemic, Joey’s plan was to step up to Advanced level in the summer of 2020, but as with all the horses, his plans have been pushed back. He had some brilliant Intermediate runs throughout the 2020 season, including double clear around the tough track at Cornbury and rounding off the season with a 2nd place at Oasby.
Joey has been sold to a talented junior rider and we wish them all the fun and success over the coming years together.
