Currently Eventing

Dassett Eventing is home to between 20 and 30 horses at any one time.  This page shows the horses the team at Dassett Eventing are preparing to compete on the British Eventing and FEI circuits at the start of the 2018 season.  All horses owned by Dassett Eventing, and some others, are available for trial. Further details can be found on the Horses For Sale page.

The horses listed below are being produced by Kate for the start of the 2018 season:

Breed:

Mr. Philip Rocher and Mrs. Lesley Rocher

No one can quite believe this, but...Jack is back!  Jack was bought for Kate's parents as an untouched 3 year old, and Kate truly adores this horse, although he needed careful and tactful producing.  Kate quietly produced him through his 4 year old year, but following compliactions with a foot abscess he missed the whole 2009 season. Happily, there were no lasting effects, and Jack quickly took the eventing circuit by storm, with numerous double clears and Novice placings in 2011, as well as finishing 7th in his first International, Brand Hall CIC*, and 10th at Weston Park CCI*. These good results earned Jack a place on the Equine Pathway programme and in 2012 Jack jumped great double clears around his first CIC2*, his first Advanced and Blair's CCI2* to finish 8th.  In 2013 Jack tackled some of the biggest CIC3*s on the circuit, and put in a class cross country performance at Blenheim Palace's prestigious 8/9YO 3* Championships.  Jack was unlucky to have an early slip on landing out on Bramham's CCI3* cross country track in 2014, but put that behind him and jumped great double clears at both Hopetoun and Blair's CIC3* tracks.  He then jumped one of only 10 double clear at Blenheim Palace's CCI3* that autumn to round the season off, despite being only a 10 year old.  2015 got off to a gutting start, with a chip to Jack's right hind cannon bone, presumably in the field.  After consultations with top surgeons across the world, the devastating decision was made to retire Jack to the field.  However...a scan in early 2017, just done out of interest, showed considerable wearing down on the chip, and he spent 2017 in light work with Hayley.  Kate has taken back the reins after her maternity leave, and the pair are, unbelivably, preparing for a season at CIC3* level!  The whole team is keeping everything crossed the the return of this duo...

HHS Dassett Appeal (Gimmie)

Sex:

Height:

Breed:
By Ghareeb
Level:

Owner:
Dassett Eventing

Gimmie kicked off his career in style through 2010 with numerous doubles clears and placings at BE100 level, and then placed in his 1st Novice in the autumn. A a 6yo, Gimmie gained valuable Novice experience, as well as jumping double clear at Osberton's National 6YO Championships, before rounding off the year with an excellent double clear at Aldon CCI*, finishing in the top 20. He upgraded to Intermediate level at the start of 2012, jumping double clears and placing at this level throughout the year. This good form resulted in Gimmie being selected to represent Great Britain in the prestigious World 7YO Championships at Le Lion d'Anger...where after being well placed in the dressage, the event got rained off!  Along with numerous Intermediate placings throughout 2013, Gimmie finished in the money at both Barbury CIC** and Osberton CCI**, and easily upgraded to Advanced level.  Gimmie had an unlucky 2014 season, culminating in a pulled shoe (and half his foot!) ruling him out of Blenheim 8/9YO Championships, but he gained the lost 3* experience throughout 2015.  This included competing at some of toughest CIC3*s on the curcuit, and showed what a class cross country horse he is at Blenheim Palace's CCI3* to round off the season.  In 2016, having placed at Advanced level, Gimmie was clear and inside the time (being the fastest of the day) around Bramham's CCI3* cross contry track, making it feel very easy!  With Kate on maternity leave in 2017, Gimmie was kept in work by the Dassett team and one of Kate's good friends, Jodie Amos.  He is all ready for action this year, and will once again work towards Bramham CCI3* and should make his CCI4* debut in the near future.

Breed:
By Namelus R
Level:

Owner:
Dassett Eventing, Sheena Hawkin & Lesley Rocher

This lovely character turned his talents to eventing at the end of 2013, following a year of pure jumping in Ireland.  He took to the sport more naturally than many, easily upgrading to Novice level early in 2014, and following many double clears, made the step up to Intermedaite very smoothly in the spring of 2015.  Casper went on to win and place at Intermediate level throughout 2015, and in 2016 he consolidated on his 2* form, cruised clear around his first Advanced and placed 7th at his spring CCI2*.  With Kate on maternity leave in 2017, Casper worked on some pure dressage with Lizzie Murray and Hayley, and is all set to contest the CIC3* circuit this spring, ahead of an autumn CCI3*.

Breed:
By Beowolf
Level:

Owner:
Dassett Eventing

Boo made it over to our UK base just in time for a couple of the last 4yo classes in 2013, where he proved what a class act he is.  Kate quietly produced Boo through 2014 and the pair enjoyed some BE100 mileage and good results at the end of the season.  In 2015 they continued to place at BE100 level and easily upgraded to Novice level.  Rather dramatic growth spurts meant Boo had a quieter end to the 2015 season than planned, but he is all the better for it now!  In 2016 he consolidated on his Novice form, picking up some good results along the way.  Substitute jockey, Sarah Parkes, stepped in to compete Boo for 2017, having got to know the Dassett team after taking on the Advanced ride Dassett Cooley Dun, which was sold to owners Kate Willis and Mel Pritchard in 2014.  Boo and Sarah had some great results during 2017, winning and placing at Novice level, and rounded off the season with a great run at Aldon CCI*.  Boo has an enormous jump, so will take his time progressing up the levels, but will look to step up to Interemdiate and 2* level this spring.  He is an exciting horse who is a potential star for the future.

This stunning horse was bought by Kate's parents from a jumping yard as a 4 year old, and once backed, spent the rest of the year growing in the fields in Ireland.  He is a very talented horse, but will need time to develop and strengthen up, so will be produced slowly and carefully.  He jumped double clear around his first few events as a 5 year old, and Emma Forsyth lightly competed this sensitive horse on Kate's behalf througout 2017.  For 2018, Nemo looks set to upgrade to Novice level and will aim for a spring CIC*.  This is a seriously talented horse, who we have high hopes for.

By Olympic Lux
Level:

This smart and serious horse is by Olympic Lux and out of an Errigal Flight / Bronti dam.  Bought early in his 4yo year, Pete had the rest of the year getting the best of the Irish grass, and came across to our UK base at the start of his 5 year old year.  He kicked off his eventing career in style, picking up numerous placings at BE100 level and in the BE 5YO qualifiers.  Nicknamed 'The Boss' at home, Pete always takes everything in his stride, and has what appears to be limitless scope!  He stepped up to Novice level early in 2017, but a bit of a growth spurt meant he has had a lighter autumn competing than orginally planned.  However, he will not doubt come out stronger for it this year, and is a horse we have very high expectations for - I am sure we will see Pete jumping around some very big tracks in the future.

Andrea Burdett

Andrea bought this smashing horse off Kate and Richard Sheane as a 3 year old at the end of 2013, and bought him across to Dassett Eventing as a 4 year old, where he was quietly produced over the summer and got some great results at BYEH classes.  For 2015, Flynn was jointly produced by Kate and Andrea, but had a much quieter year than orgianlly planned as he just kept on growing!  In 2016, despite still growing, Flynn started to translate his talents to his competitive form, having placed and won at BE100 level.  In 2017, Hayley helped Andrea produce Flynn in Kate's absence and Andrea has focused on some pure dressage with great success!  Flynn is a lovely horse, both in attitude and ability, and we look forward to his journey up through the levels.

Marli has been beautifully produced from a 4yo to Advanced level by his owner, Ian Wills.  With Ian's busy schedule, Craig has taken over the reins and spent last spring forming a partnership with Marli.  They went on to have great runs at Open Intermediate and CCI2* level, and put in a class performance at Barbury CIC2* to finish 4th.  The pair rounded off their year with a fabulous run around their first Advanced together.  With Ian's help, they will look to get good CIC3* mileage this season, ahead of an autumn CCI3*, and should be an exciting combination to watch progress up the grades.

Height:

Breed:
By Radolin
Level:
Intermediate
Owner:
Dassett Eventing

This gorgeous little horse was purchased by Dassett Eventing early in his 6 year old year, having competed in some BE100s in Ireland as a 5 year old.  He gained several top 3 placings at BE100 during the summer of 2016, and easily upgraded to Novice level later in the year.  Tiny went on to consolidate on his Novice form during the start of 2017, constistantly placing in the top 5, and made the step up to Intermediate level look ridiculously easy.  After an unfortunate slip on the flat at Blair CCI*, he rounded off his year completing Aldon CCI* and is set up well for an exciting 2018 season, where he will work towards a spring CCI2* and Advanced level later in the year.  Despite his size (and a bit of a cheeky streak!), this is a serious horse with movement, an enormous jump and great gallop, making him a very exciting prospect for the future, and is sure to be a horse we see jumping around the big tracks over the coming years.

By Zambise
Level:

Dassett Eventing

This tall and attractive horse was bought off Brian Flynn and Meabh Bolger at MBF Sport Horses at the start of this year, after Kate had her eye on the horse as he jumped during his 4 year old year.  He has a fabulously balanced canter and is a pleasure to ride to a fence.  In 2017, Zam had 2 BE100 wins, easily qualified for the National 5YO Championships, and didn't even noticed the step up to Novice level.  For 2018, he will look to gain further experience at Novice level, should be a contender at a spring CIC1* and will round of his season at the National 6YO Championships.  Zam's attitude is exceptional and he is phased by nothing, proving incredibly bold, but careful and seriously scopey.  This is a proper horse with the ablitiy and attitude to really excel.

This class horse is by Natal and out of a Douglas / TB dam.  Bought out of a jumping yard as a 4 year old, Digby has all the raw ingredients to be a seriously top class horse.  He started his eventing caeer in style, having won his first event, but a nasty over reach ruled him out of play last summer.  He was back in action for the autumn, where he placed at BE100 level and cruised around his first Novice effortlessly.  2018 should be an exciting year for Digby, as he consolidates on his Novice form and works towards a spring CIC*, ahead of the Young Horse Championships at the end of the year.  This is such a kind and talented horse, who we can't wait to see progress through his career.

Height:

Breed:
By BP Blondy
Level:
Intermdiate
Owner:
Dassett Eventing & Hayley Wright

Blondey was found as a 3yo by Dassett Eventing in Ireland, and sold on to Louise Harwood in the UK, where he successfully competed up to Novice level.  After gaining good results, Louise decided Blondy was a bit too strong to continue producing, so he is now back with Dassett Eventing and Hayley has taken on the ride, being well positioned to deal with strong horses following on from her own Mossfort (now retired), who despite being 15h1 on a tall day, was one of the strongest horses around!  Hayley got to know Blondey in the autumn of 2015, and the pair had a cracking spring at Novice level last year, jumping lots of double clears and winning rosettes!  The pair stepped up to Intermediate level in 2016, and finished on their dressage score at Blair Castle CCI*.  Hayley consolidated their form at Intermedaite and 2* level during the spring of 2017 before a minor injury ruled Blondey out of action for the remainer of the season.  However, he has made a full recovery and is already gearing up for the 2018 season.  This is a brilliant jumper, with scope to burn, and a horse we hope to see progressing up the levels over the years.

What Joey lacks in height he most certainly makes up for in personality!  This confident and hilarious character is by Iroko and out of a very successful line of jumping mares.  Bought as a 3 year old, Joey spent much of his 4 year old year learning the ropes in Ireland and came over to our UK base last autumn.  He is a fabulous jumper, proving scopey, careful and bold, and we are excited to see him develop.  Hayley took her time with Joey this spring, and the pair has a good autumn competing at BE100 level.

This proper little horse is talented in all 3 phases and is adored by Lauren!  He qualified for the 4YO Championships in 2010, where he finished 13th. 2011 got off to a fantastic start at BE100 level, always finishing in the top 8, including a win, qualified for the 5YO Championships, where he put in a respectable performance, and was placed in his first few Novices. As a 6 year old, Benny picked up superb Noivce form, easily upgraded to Intermediate level, and rounded off an excellent season with a double clear at the National 6YO Championships.  After securing a place on the World Class Equine Pathway programme, Benny has won and placed at Intermediate level, had a top 3 placings at CCI* and CIC2* level, placed 6th at a CCI2* and easily upgraded to Advanced level.  For 2017, Benny was campainged on the Junior scene with one of our apprentices, Finley Atherton.  The pair got their relationship off to a great start, but had an inforced break as Finley broke his pelvis!  Having made a full recovery, the pair had a busy autumn, upgrading to Novice level and plaing in all their events.  Finley and Benny will work towards some OIU21 classes this year, and should be real contenders at a CCI* this spring.

Elvis came over to the UK during the middle of 2014 for Alice, and although he was very weak and raw, he went from strength to strength during the autumn, getting good results at BE90 and BE100 level.  Following some good BE100 form early in 2015, the pair flew around their first Novice and continued to gain experience at this level throughout the rest of the season.  With help from Kate, as Alice qualified as a teacher, the pair consolidated on their Novice during 2016, and picked up some great results along the way.  Between Alice's work commitments in 2017, she still had a win at Novice level and picked up many other great results along the way.  Elvis is a lovely big horse, who has a fabulous attitude and we look forward to watching the partnership progress over the coming years.

Mare
Height:

Breed:
By Fleurop
Level:

Fleur was a very talented and game little mare, who always managed to put a smile on your face! Kate competed Fleur for the first half of 2011, including upgrading her to Intermediate level, whilst Alice focused on her final year exams at Durham University. Alice took back the reins in the autumn, and the pair successfully completed their first CCI* at Weston Park.  In 2012 Alice was a full time working pupil with Kate, and the pair gained more experience at 1* and Intermediate level together, including winning a prize for the 'Most Improved After Dressage' at Blair Castle CCI*!  Fleur consolidated on her Intermediate form in 2013, and with Kate's help the pair upgrade to Advanced level in 2014.  For 2015 Hayley had Fleur on loan, due to Alice's work commitments, and the pair placed at Novice, Intermediate and 1* level.  Fleur is now to be retired from competition and started breeding the next generation of superstars.  Given her talents, she should breed some really exciting horses for the future.

Height:

Breed:
By Calido I
Level:
Advanced
Owner:
Craig Barr

Miller was a new purchase for Craig late in 2014, having previously competed very successfully up to 2* level.  After taking a few runs to get to know each other at ON level, they upgraded to Intermediate level, and made the transition seem easy.  They also tackled Aldon's CCI* to round off the 2014 season and finished just outside the top 10.  The pair consolidated on their 2* form through 2015, and rounded off their spring campaign with a super double clear and placing at Hopetoun's CCI2*.  They went on to upgraded to Advance level with no effort, and were all set to get plenty of CIC3* mileage throughout 2016.  However, Miller has sadly reinjured an old injury he sustained a few years before Craig bought him, and he won't compete at the top level again.  Craig did a wonderful job to rehabiliate Miller, and he is now enjoying a quieter life teaching students in Cheshire.
